How To Find Out How Old Your Phone Is

A simple guide to checking when your phone was made

If you want to figure out how old your phone is, there are several ways to do it. Your purchase date can help you determine if your phone is still under warranty. Determining the release date of your phone model can help you determine if your phone is compatible with the latest apps. The manufacturing date can tell exactly how old your phone is.

How to Tell How Old Your Phone Is

If you still have the box, look for a bar code sticker that has the manufacturing date. You can also locate your phone's model number in your settings and search for it online.

METHOD 1: Checking the Box

If you still have the box your phone came in, there's a pretty good chance it has the manufacturing date on it. There should be a sticker with a bunch of text and barcodes. Look for "Date" or something similar on this sticker.

METHOD 2: Locating Your Phone Model

1. Determine your phone model. If you know your phone model, you can easily determine the launch date for your phone model.

  • iPhone: Open the Settings app and tap General. Tap About. Write down the Model Name and Model Number.
  • Android: Swipe down from the top of the menu and tap the icon that resembles a Gear in the upper-right corner to open the Settings menu. Tap About Phone (this may be under System). Check your model number, model name, device name, or something similar.

.      Search for the model name online. If the settings menu on your phone tells you the model number but not the model name, you can easily determine the model name with a simple search on your favorite search engine like Google or Bing. Just search [brand] [model number] (i.e., Samsung SM-S918U), and this should tell you the exact phone model name.

3.      Search for the model's release date. Once again, use your favorite search engine to search When was [phone model] released?. This should tell you the exact date that the phone model was launched.
